The new show will debut on Adult Swim and Max in 2024, and it’ll also be available on Adult Swim Canada. It’s going to be an original series, drawing inspiration from themes and events in the main “Rick and Morty” animated show.

Takashi Sano, known for his work on “Tower of God,” is both writing and directing the 10-episode series at Telecom Animation Film, known for titles like “Lupin III” and “Shenmue the Animation.” Sano previously directed the “Rick and Morty vs. Genocider” and “Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil)” animated shorts. Sola Entertainment is producing, with Maki Nagano, Max Nishi, and Takenari Maeda on board as producers. Yu Kiyozono is handling animation production, while Yuuki Kakizoe is the assistant producer.

Executive producers include Jason DeMarco and Joseph Chou. Arisa Matsuzawa is the art director, and Makiko Kojima is responsible for color design. Sou Ki is directing CGI, with Kaori Kobayashi as the special effects supervisor, Tatsuo Noguchi as the composite director, and Yoshihiro Kasahara as the editor. Kōichi Iizuka is in charge of sound direction, while Tetsuya Takahashi is composing the music at Terra-Musica.

OC from Code of Zero, along with Cameron Earnshaw, will perform the opening theme song “Love is Entropy,” with lyrics by OtoneZ. Studio DEEN previously produced the first “Samurai & Shogun” animated short for “Rick and Morty” in March 2020, and Adult Swim streamed a sequel in November 2021.

Additionally, Adult Swim streamed an 11-minute “The Great Yokai Battle of Akihabara” animated short in October 2021, which also aired on Toonami the same month. Another short, “Rick and Morty vs. Genocider,” was streamed by Adult Swim in July 2020.
